So, there are what? Four distinct Tenchi continuities now. The
OAV, Tenchi TV (Tenchi Universe), Shin Tenchi Muyo (Tenchi in
Tokyo), and of course, The Magical Girl Pretty Sammy. God only
knows which movies tie to which continuity. Hopefully, they tie
to one, and aren't their own continuity. But, what if there
really are infinite worlds out there, and what if, through an
accident (involving a certain blonde haired member of the Galaxy
Police and a piece of equipment belonging to a certain pink-
haired genius) the borders between these continuities were
erased?
Sorry Tenchi, but this isn't your lucky day....
And now, the story....
It all began as a quiet day in the Masaki household, which
was unusual in and of itself. Tenchi was walking home from the
carrot fields with a basket full of carrots for everyone's
favorite, and thank God, only cabbit. He reflected on how quiet
the morning had been, and was waiting for the other shoe to
drop. Life with five alien women had taught him that anything
could, and usually did, happen.
As his home came into view, he saw a beautiful, green-
haired woman running towards him. Her outfit identified her as a
member of the Galaxy Police.
"Tenchi, come quick. There's been an accident at Washuu's!"
"Figures," Tenchi muttered to himself, "Who are you?"
"Tenchi, this isn't any time for games. This is serious! Oh
no! You're this world's Tenchi!"
"This world's Tenchi?"
"I think Washuu had better explain this one. Augh! That
partner of mine! No matter what world she's in, she's still an
inept goof! Oh, my name is Kiyone. I'd say it's a pleasure to
meet you, but given the circumstances...well, you'd better see
for yourself."
Meanwhile, at Washuu's lab, Washuu, Washuu, Washuu, and
Washuu all stared at the arcing and sparking piece of equipment
that had once been a dimensional oscillator. All reached the
same conclusion at t he same time, and four agitated geniuses
cried out, "MIHOSHI!"
Sasami was beside herself, literally, "Wow. This is a
mess!"
Sasami nodded in agreement, "You can say that again!"
"This is terrible," Ryo-Ohki said, "Sasami, maybe you'd
better...urk!"
The cabbit halted as he saw not one, but four Sasami-chans,
"Ok, which one of you is Magical Girl Pretty Sammy."
"I am," one Sasami raised her hand.
"Ryo-Ohki can talk!" the other three Sasami's marveled.
"Meow! Hiss!" One Ryo-Ohki spat jealously.
"This could only have been Mihoshi's doing," Ryoko said to
Ayeka, "I swear, this is just like the time she fouled up at the
Jurain border and nearly got us all killed."
"Um, Ryoko, whatever are you talking about?"
"Damn. You're the wrong Ayeka."
"We have a problem," Washuu said, her other selves nodding
in agreement, "Somehow Mihoshi fouled up my dimensional
oscillator, and there is now a convergence of universes. The
bigger problem is, I've managed to locate everyone in this
universe, and I've found multiple signatures for all of
us...except for one person...Tenchi. He's the only singular
around. Even Nobiyuki and Yosho...er Katsuhito to some of you,
are here in multiple forms."
"I've brought Tenchi," Kiyone said.
"At least someone around here can do things right," Kiyone
replied, eying the Mihoshi's warily. All four of them had gotten
together in a little chat session.
"Brother!" Sasami ran over and hugged Tenchi, "Look at this
mess! How are we ever going to fix it?"
"Brother?" Tenchi asked, scratching his head.
"It's not our Tenchi," Ryo-Ohki said to Sasami, "He might
not be your brother in this world."
"He's not," Ayeka said, "She's my sister in this world."
Three Sasami's nodded their heads, "Absolutely."
"I think we need to label ourselves so that we can make
sorting this out easier," Washuu said, "Now, all of you who were
there when Tenchi created the Light Hawk Wings, raise your
hands. Good. You are from this world, and are group one. So take
these 1 pins and put them where they can be seen.
"All of you who spent months on the Yagame journeying to
Jurai, raise your hands. You're group 2. Here are your pins.
"All of you who tried to keep Tenchi from dating Sakuya,
raise your hands. You're group three.
"And all of you who are left, you're group four. You come
from a world where Sasami transforms into a Magical heroine and
saves the world."
"Hey!" Sasami said, as the others gave her a strange look,
"That was supposed to be secret, Washuu!"
"Oops. Sorry."
"So, where's group one's Kiyone?" Washuu 2 asked.
"She died saving the universe from the evil schemes of Dr.
Washuu, like I told you all earlier," Mihoshi 1 said.
"It never happened!" Washuu 1 said defensively as she was
scrutinized by the others.
Tenchi spoke up, "Um....How long will this take to fix?"
"Well," Washuu 2 said, "I can fix this, but even with four
of me, it'll take a few days."
"Boy," Sasami said, "Cooking is a whole lot easier when
there's help!"
"You said it," the other Sasamis agreed, "But it's alot of
work, keeping four Ryo-Ohki's out of the carrots too."
"Meow." "Meow" "Meow" , Ryo-Ohkis 1-3 whined.
"But I'm hungry!" Ryo-Ohki 4 protested.
Kiyone 2 sat on the couch with Kiyones 3 and 4, "So then we
were busted back and permanently assigned to patrol the Earth
sector. All because of my stupid partner."
The other Kiyones nodded their understanding.
"Hey, something just occurred to me," Kiyone 4 said, "If
the constant in all our worlds is that Ryoko and Ayeka are
always after Tenchi's hand, then what happens with four Ayekas,
four Ryokos, and only one Tenchi between them?"
There was a sudden loud explosion from outside.
Three Kiyones bowed their heads, "Uh oh."
End of Chapter one.

A special thanks to Rowan-Seven, who convinced me to continue the madness.
Ryoko sat on the porch of the Masaki house and watched as another version
of herself argued with Princess Ayeka about Tenchi. The hapless boy was
being stretched between the two, and looked as if he might break at any
given moment. Ryoko looked at the number 4 pinned on her dress, and sighed.
To the Tenchi of this world, that was probably all she was, just a number.
She certainly couldn't compete with the other Ryoko's that existed beside
her now. They flew, they had incredible strength, and they wielded fabulous
powers. What could she, a mere human, do to compete with that?
"Really got you down?" Ayeka 4 asked, sitting beside her.
"You too, huh?"
"It's different when it's just the two of us, but we can't compete with
ourselves, can we? Besides, he's really not our Tenchi, you know."
Ryoko nodded, "I know. He's this world's Tenchi, and he doesn't know us at
all. He won't ever remember the time he gave me his handkerchief to use on a
bruise I had, or the times he talked with you in the halls of the school.
For him, those things never happened. It's pointless to fight over him. He's
not ours."
Ayeka smiled wistfully, "We'll be going home in a few days anyway. It'll
all be like it never even happened."
Ryoko smiled as well, "Come on. There ought to be some decent soaps on
right now. Let's leave these guys alone."
With four Ryokos, four Ayekas, four Sasamis, four Washuus, four Mihoshis,
three Kiyones, three Nobiyukis, three Katsuhitos, and four Ryo-Ohkis, there
was very little space in the Masaki house. And repairs on the dimensional
oscillator were going slowly. Two problems immediately became apparent.
First, there wasn't enough living space in the Masaki house for thirty
people and four cabbits. Second, there wasn't enough food. To this end, the
Washuus came to the aid of the others.
"This used to be Ayeka and Sasami's room," Washuu 2 said, "However, thanks
to the use of psuedo space, I've taken care of the problem of our housing
arrangements."
Washuu 2 slid the door open, revealing a lengthy hallway with at least
fourty doors lining the wall, "Behind each door is a bedroom fit to
accomodate each of us, each one with its own bathroom. They're all furnished
and ready for use, and all labeled to keep us all in the right rooms without
confusion. It took some doing, but I pulled it off."
"Way to go, Washuu!"
"You are a genius, Washuu!"
Tenchi sighed, "Do those puppet things always do that?"
"Yes!" Group 2 moaned.
"Hey," Kiyone 2 said suddenly, "Does anyone see any of the Mihoshis
anywhere?"
"Uh-oh..."
Washuu 1 was working on the problem of finding food, "This device is a
replicator, Sasami. I'm showing all of you how to use it, because you're the
only one...or is it ones?...that I trust to handle it. Place the item to be
copied into the slot here, press this button, and the food will be analyzed,
and recreated by the matter transmogrification array here. Don't try to copy
whole meals. Just stick to base ingredients, and everything should be fine."
"Wow!" Mihoshi 1 said, coming into the room, "That's amazing Washuu! But
what does this other button do?"
Before Washuu could protest, Mihoshi 1 pressed the button.
"NO! That's the reflux furnace that powers the replicator! You've just sent
it into overdrive. The power buildup is unpredictable!"
In Washuu's lab, Washuus 3 and 4 were trying to fix the dimensional
oscillator when they heard a giggling noise. It sounded dangerously like
Mihoshi!
"What is she doing?" Washuu 4 asked.
"Oh no! She just contaminated the lab with extra-dimensional particals.
Shut down the oscillator, now!"
"Too late! I'm reading a new signal entry. No, three of them. Two are Jurai
in nature. One is some sort of temporal anomaly. There's a fourth!
Humanoid!"
"I've got the kill switch!"
The dimensional oscillator shut down with a whine.
Ryoko 1 was busy yanking on Tenchi's arm, "Come on, Tenchi, come with me!"
Tenchi was trying to finish sweeping the stairs of Masaki shrine, "Ryoko,
please. I'm never going to finish at this rate."
There was a sudden humming noise, and a girl, about 15 years old, with
short purple hair pounced on Tenchi, "Daddy!"
"Daddy?" Ryoko and Tenchi said in unison.
Ryoko gave Tenchi an evil look, "Tenchi...."
"I can't possibly be her father, Ryoko!" Tenchi protested, "She's got to be
just about two years younger than me."
"No, Daddy, I'm Mayuka! I come from the future!"
"Washuu!" Tenchi and Ryoko sighed.
A thought occurred to Ryoko, "Say, little girl, if you're from the future,
who's your mother?"
Mayuka smiled, "Why, all of you are my Mommy, Mommy Ryoko! You all raised
me!"
Ryoko sighed, "Why do I even bother?"
"Yoshoooooo," her sweet still voice called to him, "Come to me Yosho. It's
been so long since I've seen you."
"Haruna?" Yosho 1 looked at the apparition before him, "No, it can't be.
You died on Jurai, when Ryoko attacked!"
"No," Yosho 2 said, "This is the Haruna of my world. She died here, on
Earth. But how are you here now, Haruna?"
"I can find you, no matter where you go, Yosho," Haruna said, "My love for
you will never die."
Yuugi stared from her crystalline domain at the Masaki house, "Sasami my
friend, it seems there are so many more of you to play with me. And we'll
have so much fun, away from all of these others."
Yuugi suddenly felt a dark presence, "Who...who's there?"
"You are of Jurai," The dark force said, "But you are different from the
others. I cannot absorb you, but you cannot harm me."
"What are you?"
"I am Kain, who has suffered much from the House of Jurai. And I will
punish them for what they've done to me!"
Yuugi smiled, "Perhaps we can help each other, Kain."
Sasami 1 looked around at the mountain of carrots that covered the kitchen,
"Is everyone alright?"
"Alright?" Ryo-Ohki 4 gasped, "I'm in heaven!"
Ryo-Ohki's 1-3 meowed their agreement.
"That was quick thinking, Sasami, putting the carrot in the replicator,"
Washuu said.
"Well, the energy had to go somewhere, so I thought the machine should do
its job. I just wish it hadn't been a carrot. What are we going to do with
all of these?"
"Carrot sticks?" Mihoshi suggested.
Sasami 1-4 sighed.
Then Sasami 1 felt a presence in the back of her head, a presence that
could only have been her other self, Tsunami.
-Sasami, there is something wrong. I feel a dark presence here!-
-What is it, Tsunami?-
-I don't know. But Tenchi is in danger.-
Ayeka was fighting with herself, "Look, he's MY Lord Tenchi, and that's
that. You can have your own Tenchi when you get back to your own world!"
"What difference does it make," Ayeka 2 retorted, "Lord Tenchi will love us
all the same, no matter what. We are the same, after all!"
Ryoko 2 laughed at that, "Isn't it obvious, Princess, that we're just in
the way here. Besides, imagine how upset OUR Tenchi would be if he found out
you weren't willing to wait for him."
"Are you saying that I'm being unfaithful?" Ayeka 2 demanded.
"Cheating on a man with himself is pretty strange," Ryoko 3 added, "Boy,
Ayeka, you really have some wierd relationships."
Ar that moment, Tenchi and Ryoko 1 came in the door, with Mayuka in tow.
"Lord Tenchi, who is this?" Ayeka wondered.
"It's OUR daughter from the future," Ryoko said. Ordinarily, she woudl have
done this with bravado and style, but now she was just tired and worn out,
and in no mood to poke fun, "And by OUR, I mean, you, me, Sasami, Mihoshi,
Kiyone, and Washuu. All of us raised her. She doesn't know who her
biological mother was. Don't ask."
"WHAT?" all the other Ryokos and Ayekas yelled.
"Wow!" Mayuka looked around, "I never knew I had so many Mommies!"
Tenchi sighed, "It's going to be another beautiful day on Planet Earth."
"What!" the Sasamis were awestruck as one of their own reported on the
danger that possibly faced Tenchi.
"We need to act now!" Ryo-Ohki 4 said, "Sasami, transform now."
"Do I have to?" Sasami asked, blushing.
"YES! WHAT'S THE POINT ON BEING A MAGICAL GIRL IF YOU DON'T USE IT!!!!"
Sasami 4 sighed, and produced her magic wand, "All of you, turn your
heads!"
She uttered her magic words, and in a flash was once more Magical Girl
Pretty Sammy. She turned to face the others, and nearly fainted.
"What are we wearing?" Sasami 1 asked, examining the unsightly dresses that
all were now in, "These colors are all wrong. Purple and green! Eyuuu!"
"That transformation was a bit chilly," Sasami 2 added, "What just
happened, anyway?"
"I guess we're all Sasami, so it transformed all of us," Sasami 3 said.
Ryo-Ohki 4 sighed, while the other cabbits were passed out from shock, "I
didn't ask to be a magical guardian. I really didn't. I was just minding my
own business in the Magical Kingdom, and then Tsunami comes up to me and
says...."
At the request of theWashuus, the Kiyones rounded up all of the Mihoshis
and confined them to their bedrooms.
"But Kiyone..."
"NO! Until the dimensional oscillator is fixed, you aren't leaving those
rooms, Mihoshis!Things are bad enough as it is. We don't need you making it
any worse."
"Personally," Kiyone 2 confided in herselves,"I don't think it can get any
worse."
Kain listened to Yuugi's plan with interest.
"Yes. I will spare the one you call Sasami. But in exchange, you will help
me fight the House of Jurai, so that I may have my revenge upon them."
"I owe them as well, Kain, so don't worry. I'll keep my end of the
bargain."
Tenchi Muyo: No Need For Multiple Continuities
Chapter 3

Standard Disclaimer: All of the characters appearing within are the property
of AIC and Pioneer, and are used without permission. One of the ideas found
within was given to me by Peter Suzuki, from the end of his story “Ruby Red,
Cat-Like Eyes”, but how it turns out will be entirely my fault. Please don’t
sue, I’m not making money on this, and it’s done out of love of the
characters.
The Sasamis, all still in the Pretty Sammy garb, were walking to the
storage shed where the carrots and other vegetables were stored, all
carrying armloads of carrots generated by one of Washuu’s many strange
devices. They were followed by four eager looking cabbits.
“This is quite a chore,” Sasami 1 said, “Even with all these people here, I
don’t know if we can get rid of these before they go bad.”
“Well, we can always try to sell some for extra money,” Sasami 3 pointed
out, “I mean, with all of us here, there’s going to be a cash shortage in no
time fast.”
Just then, a green sphere of light appeared in the yard, and it opened up.
Sasami 1 recognized the energy signature immediately, and screamed.
“Kagato!”
Kagato did indeed spill out of the portal, but he was different somehow. He
collapsed on the ground, green blood covering his forehead. He looked up at
the Sasamis, and reached out, “Help me....”
Kagato passed out, face first on the ground.
Ryoko 1 came flying, having heard the name Sasami cried out. Her energy
sword was at the ready. She tapped Kagato with her foot, and when he didn’t
stir, she lifted him by his hair, and gasped.
“He can’t be Kagato. The Kagato I knew would never grow a goatee.”
Kain and Yuugi watched from the shadow world.
“What do you say we start to play with our new toys,” Yuugi grinned as she
watched the others, “Let’s start with the pirates and the princesses.”
“I don’t enjoy games,” Kain said, “I prefer to see my handiwork unfold
firsthand.”
“Patience, Kain. First we stir them up, then we strike. There’s more of
them then there are of you, and you’re still weak from the fight you had
with them in SubSpace (See Tenchi Muyo in Love for details). Technically,
you should be dead.”
“I can never die. I am energy, and energy is eternal.”
“Energy can be dispelled, though. Besides, I owe them for what they did to
me. I owe Sasami for rejecting me!”
Washuu 1 and 2 were examining Kagato while Washuu 3 and 4 continued to
peice what was left of the dimensional oscillator back together.
“Well,” Washuu 1 said, removing her goggles, “It’s Kagato. The cell
structure matches.”
“Yes,” Washuu 2 nodded, “But the energy pattern is different. Your records
show Kagato with a negative aura. This Kagato has a positive aura. And
neither of the Kagatos we met in our adventures would have grown a full
goatee.”
“I believe,” Kagato said, opening his eyes, which looked far more human
than either Washuu remembered, “that I might be of some assistance. I was
attempting to flee from the Washuu of my world, who had just finished
destroying Planet Jurai, and I figured that another dimension might be the
best place to do it. I evidently stumbled into some sort of mirror world,
where things are not quite the same. For instance, if you were the Washuu I
knew, you would have started this off by applying electrodes to my eyes.”
“So,” Ryoko wasn’t convinced, “He’s some sort of ‘good twin’ to our
Kagato?”
“That,” Washuu 1 said, releasing Kagato’s restraints, “is about the size of
it.”
“Well,” Ayeka 2 said, sipping her tea, “ Stranger things have happened.”
“I see you ladies are having some trouble,” Kagato looked over at the other
two Washuus, who had no reason to distrust him, especially not with that
honeyed, soothing voice he had, “Is there any way I might help?”
Washuu 1 beamed, “Of course! Kagato’s still a genius! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
That means we can fix this puppy in no time!”
Ayeka 1 was preparing for a dip in the onsen, when she passed a blonde
haired girl on the path.
“Oh. Have you come to pay your respects to the Masaki Shrine?” she asked,
always trying to be helpful.
The girl shook her head, “I’m looking for a girl I met near here, a friend
of mine named Sasami. She’s about my height, with freckles and blue hair.”
-Funny- thought Ayeka - Sasami never mentioned any friends.-
“Sasami is at the house,” Ayeka said, “Shall I show you the way?”
“Oh no, I can find it myself. Thank you.”
And with that, the girl proceded down the path.
Ayeka entered the onsen, and found two of her already there, and one Ryoko
as well. The fact that none of them seemed injured in any shape way or form
indicated that this was Ryoko 4, the all human one.
"Has anyone seen Lord Tenchi," Ayeka 1 asked.
All of the other shook their heads.
"Not since that explosion earlier," Ayeka 3 said, "Really, Ryoko, was it
necessary to use all that power?"
"Power? What power? I'm Ryoko 4, in case you've forgotten. No powers here."
"Perhaps Lord Tenchi went to the shrine to help his grandfather," Ayeka 4
suggested.
Tenchi was, in fact, hiding in the last place anyone would think to look
for him, in Washuu-chan's lab. The fact that the Washuus were all busy meant
that he'd be safe, and with the Mihoshis all in their rooms, no further
mishaps could occur. Well, almost no other mishaps. There was still the new
random element, Mayuka.
"Daddy!" Mayuka pounced on Tenchi, "Oh, I'm so happy to see you, Daddy. But
why are you here in Mommy Washuu's lab?"
"I'm just...resting," Tenchi said, "Mayuka, why did Washuu send you back in
time, anyway?"
"Oh, that. Um.....she wrote it down, somewhere. Now where did I put that
note?"
"Mihoshi didn't, by any chance, teach you your organizational skills, did
she?"
"How did you know?"
"Lucky guess."
Yuugi saw all the Sasamis gathered in the kitchen, tending to various
cooking chores. She suddenly felt guilty. Sasami had never hurt her. Sure,
she'd chosen not to go with her to her world. But the first time that Sasami
had gone to her world, she had been hurt defending Yuugi from an "attack".
And her family still would have been in a world like this, and she would
have been without them. Seeing all the Sasami's working together, Yuugi
realized that it was her friend's kindness that drew her, and she could no
more take Sasami from the people she loved than she could bring herself to
crush Tenchi.
"Yuugi?!" Sasami 3 spotted Yuugi, and went running out to greet her, "Did
Washuu's device bring you here too? Are you alright? Would you like
something to eat?"
Yuugi smiled faintly, and a tear came to her eye, "I'm fine, Sasami. Thank
you."
"Hey, everyone," Sasami 3 pulled her into the kitchen by her arm, "This is
my friend Yuugi!"
"Konichiwa, Yuugi-chan," all the others greeted her with their most
cheerful smiles.
Yuugi knew then that she had been wrong, and that Sasami had always been
her friend.
Mayuka finally found the note that Washuu had given her. She handed it to
Tenchi.
"Tenchi, There is great danger. Kain is coming. Give this disc," Tenchi
stopped reading and looked at a computer disc taped to the letter, then
resumed reading, "To my counterparts."
Minagi landed her spaceship near the onsen. She wanted to surprise her
sister and mother by popping in unannounced to say hello. She got more than
she bargained for when she bumped headlong into a woman in a cloak, with
cyan hair, and a sword blaster.
"I have you now, Ryoko!"
"The name's Minagi," Minagi replied, "Ryoko's my sister. And I don't know
what beef you have with her, but you just took it up with me!"
At that moment, all the Ayekas and Ryokos came out of the onsen. Nagi was
stunned, to say the least.
"What!" Ayekas 2-4 yelled, "Another Ryoko?"
"No," Ryoko 1 said, "It's my sister. Minagi, you chose a really bad time
for a family reunion!"
"Hey, Nagi," Ryoko 2 called mockingly to the bounty hunter, "Wanna try to
take all of me on at once?"
Nagi threw her sword on the ground, "Ken-ohki, get us back home. I'm
quitting the bounty-hunter trade. This is more than anyone deserves, if you
ask me!"
"What," Minagi scratched her head in puzzlement, "Was that all about? And
since when could you do more than two of yourself, Ryoko?"
"It's a looooooooooooong story," Ryoko said, patting her sister on the
shoulder, "Come on inside, and I'll tell you all about it.
From deep space, a sleek craft streaked towards the Earth.
